Homework Policy

Cactus Ranch has established homework policies for each grade level.  Throughout the year in second grade your child will bring home two things each week:  an agenda to record nightly reading homework and a math flashback sheet.  All homework assignments will be sent home on Fridays and should be returned the following Friday. 

 

Reading Homework

Students are encouraged  to read every night. However, the 2nd grade expectation is that students are reading at least 4 nights a week, for 20 minutes each time. Your child will be  encouraged to record his/her book titles and pages/chapters read in a reading log provided by their teacher.

Please sign or initial next to the book title, in the space provided.  This is to ensure that your child is reading texts on their level and you are acknowledging that they are completing their reading minutes.

Math Homework (Flashback):

Math homework will be a one=page sheet sent home every Friday.  The sheet will have boxes printed on the front and back.  Each box will contain a review math problem.  Students are responsible for completing all of the math problems using a separate sheet of paper to show work (if necessary).  Extra work should be attached to the math flashback, and turned in on Friday.  

 

It is crucial your child complete their math flashback as well as read on a weekly basis, as this will allow for practice and spiral review  of what your 2nd grader is learning in class.  Special projects for other subjects will be given occasionally throughout the year.
